    Default What do i buy

I am new to airbrushing and an avid fisherman/luremaker. At the moment, my only use for an airbrush would be painting fishing lures, so detail and ease of color change would be priority. Do i look for double or single action? Gravity or siphon? The key is detail and ultimate ease of use. I am not opposed to paying what a good tool is worth, so what should i expect to pay and can anyone recomend a good starter setup? I already have several compressors of various sizes. Any info related to my needs would be greatly appreciated.

    Crankbait

    Welcome to how to airbrush

For detail you can't beat a double action gravity feed airbrush, Iwata HP-CS is a great airbrush you might want to take a look at

Sense you have a compressor you are all set put a moisture trap, regulator on it should be fine.

Hopefully other members will provide you what they use for the type of airbrushing you'll be doing

    Crankbait,

Welcome to the forum. There are several people on here that do lures. They'll see this and reply. They do very nice work.

    Hello,

I to am a newbie to the world of airbrushing.Currently I have been airbrushing for less than a month.I am using a Paache VL double action airbrush with a Paache D500 compressor.I have been looking into a new compressor, such as a 1/3 hp size. Also I am currently using a 6 ft hose but want to use my 25 ft hose that I received as a gift.Would a 1/3 hp compressor sufice for these two items?Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks Daren

    Daren,

After you are around here for a while you will see that's a common question. Many of us answer it by telling you to buy the biggest one you can afford. I don't claim to know a whole bunch about compressors, but it's not really horsepower, it's the continuous volume of air you need. The length of the hose does not effect air pressure, as far as I've read. The length of an electrical cord effects the motor performance. That's why they will tell you to get a longer air hose, instead of going much over 6-10 ft. of cord. I'm including a link to Hallmark Airbrush, where I read this information. He does a good job of explaining compressor and what to purchase.

Compressors, What You Need to Know.

    Hope this helps.

    Daren,

One of the people I mentioned has signed up here on the new forum. He's Sgt. Rock and does a bunch of lures among other things. Post something you need to know about lures and I bet he chimes in.
