Question Which Airbrush For Createx Auto Air Pearls?

Hey Everyone, Im VERY VERY new to airbrushing - new as in i have NEVER done it before. Im actually in the process of building my own custom guitar and am curious as to what Airbrush is recommended for using Createx Auto Air Paints?

If anyone has any valuable information, that would be excellent. I have one other person tell me that using a Paasche H airbrush with a #5 tip will do a perfect job for doing the over all body of the guitar. is this information correct?

Thanks for all the help i hope to get!

    EvilPhil,

Welcome to the forum. You'll get a few answers in no time. Wow! You started off asking a tough question. First, do you have an airbrush and compressor? Second, Have you used one before? Third, what are you going to paint onto the guitar? A Paasche is a very good are brush. But, it's one of many to choose from. Give us an idea of what you're going to do. Welcome

tHank you for the quick reply. I'm not looking to do very much detail work. I'm Moore looking to do a solid colour. I looked into spray guns but those are too expensive for only maybe a couple of uses. Air brush is my best option because I
may get into detail work later down te road, but for this project I just a solid colour.

I have done some reading and someone mentioned that a Paasche H would do the trick with a #5 head? But I'd like a little more clarification. I can find those on eBay for 60$ in a whole kit.

And yes I do have a compressor.

I hope this helps. And I hope you can help me also. Thank you very much

ps. I have never air brushed before.

    EvilPhil,

Since you have a compressor that's good. You will need to regulate the pressure down to anywhere from 15-40 psi. depending on the paint. You will need to experiment on something to find out. If you're going to just do solid colors, almost any reputable airbrush should do. I don't use Paasche, I use Masters, but they are a good airbrush. If I'm not mistaking, the #5 is a .5mm nozzle/needle. That will give a little wider spray pattern vs. the smaller, finer work needles. I'm not too big on E-bay used airbrushes. The needle and nozzle may need to be replaced. Plus, by the time most every one bids on it, you are close to new price anyway, without any warranty. But, that Paasche should do just fine. Don't forget the hose.

    Default Airbrush

Well, its a brand new kit. i wouldnt buy a used one - because im assuming the cheaper the airbrush the quicker they'll die? Thats what i dont get about airbrushes, im not familiar with the differences. but i dont need an expensive one anyways.

So a #5 should be good? can you get wider tips? and yeah, my compressor has a regulator. What would i need more, dual action or single action? i just looked on ebay for masters airbrushes and found this one...

MASTER G233 Dual-Action AIRBRUSH PRO SET w-3 TIPS Hobby on eBay.ca (item 190380185767 end time 11-Apr-10 22:13:43 EDT)

not sure how that is. anywyas, i definately appreciate all your help!!!!

    EvilPhill,

eP, I didn't mean to make you feel like I was lecturing you about buying a used one. I just know from watching for them and stories the surface here on the forum, you need to be careful, that's all.

I use the Master series, as I mentioned. IN MY OPINION, that G-23, would be great for you to start. Having the extra tips, nozzles and needles, would allow you to do a little more detail work later on if you wish. Parts for the Masters are also very reasonable, if and when you need to replace them. About $9.00 each + Shipping. So that kit is a good deal at $15.00 more than the airbrush. It comes with a .3mm nozzle, but then you would have the .2mm and .5mm to switch out.

I got a kit off E-Bay from TCP Global. I got the whole deal with paints, DVD, airbrush, compressor, hose and all. You can buy the TCP Global Master airbrush and kits off of E-bay cheaper than you can buying direct from TCP. I've not seen any airbrush parts for repair on E-bay. Watch for the FREE SHIPPING. They usually have you bid on it to get the free shipping. Just bid the lowest price. If you lose, don't fret, it will come up again it about 24 hours.

As far as a larger nozzle and needles, I didn't see where you can purchase anything larger than a .5mm. I did get a S-62 Master set and it came with a .8mm nozzle. I don't ever see it listed in the parts for the S-62. I would guess you might call them and ask, if they carry a .8mm nozzle/needle for the G-23. I don't really think you'll need it that wide. I've only practiced a bit with it. I end up using the .3mm more than any other. I only use the .8mm to spray on some pearlized paint on a shirt, to make it sparkle a little for the Grand Daughters!

    Hope that wasn't too much.

Thank you for all your help. i have decided that im going to stick with the Paasche HS kit. it has 2 bigger paint cups which will make things easier for me. plus, it comes with a hose that will fit my compressor. you think that is a good choice?

also, whats the major difference between single action and double action? is there a big difference for what ill need it for?

i really appeciate all your suggestions.

    thank you.

    EvilPhil,

That's a fine airbrush. You will want to get the double action airbrush. It's much easier to control where and how much paint you're putting on. Don has some very good lesson you should watch, even before you get your equipment. His first lesson covers a lot of what you need to know about the double action airbrush. Each type of airbrush, single and double action, have their own purpose. Although I guess you could get away with a single action for a coat of paint, the double action will give you the ability to do that and some detail work also. You seemed to know what you want to do and you've done your homework on things. Once you see how much fun you're having, I bet you'll get into this. You'll end up, like many of us, with more than that one airbrush!

All of us at this forum wish you the best in this endeavor. Any question you have will get a pretty good answer or suggestion. We all have our own ideas and opinions.

You'll like it here. Paint on!
