Howdy folks, Bigsby here, the newest of the newbs in these parts. I ran across this site searching for info on my new hobby known as airbrushing. I am 40ish and in the midwest(41 and Indianapolis to be specific) I just finished my "star" project from the lessons on this site which turned out so-so,but my best work to date(going on day 2 with new airbrush). I have yet to get a compressor and currently working out of the aerosol propellent can but that must end soon cuz the stuff aint cheap and does not last that long and probably makes airbrushing more difficult than it is for a newb like me. no need to ask about compressors here, I have seen plenty of talk of the subject around here and the web. I bought an Iwata eclipse bcs .5mm, hopefully it is a good beginning tool. I really need the compressor part though so when I hear the brush hissing I can think about what I am doing instead of how much this canned air is costing me and going to run out quicker than I hope(had to switch cans in the midst of my "star"project). Glad this place is here to help me along and maybe ill post a pic of my newbness art once I get over the embarassment phase of my first days out of the can, lol. Have fun folks.......l8r

    Bigsby,

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you're off the a good start, except for that compressor thing. You need to get that and soon, before you spend good money on air cans instead of paint and more airbrush stuff! That Iwata is a very good airbrush and many people here use that band, including Don the moderator. You have the bottom feed. There are many here who use gravity feed, I use both. As far as that compressor, but the biggest you can afford. As you get more into this hobby, it will be a great benefit.

Got a new compressor today, it sure beats the hell out of those pressure cans that freeze up in a matter of minutes. I got a sparmax TC2000(seemed to be the best one at Hobby Lobby where I had my 40%coupon). Havent figured out my best air pressure yet but I probably wouldnt know it when I get there being the noob, lol. How imprtant is paint brand?and for that matter paper? I bought createx due to the 5 bottle value pack(ive read that they are used for textile but only if they are labeled textile, right?) I have done all of my painting on the cheap newsprint paper and realize it is absorbant more than others but is it like night and day compared to high dollar paper? cool thing about the compressor is the brush stand that clamps to the table has the pressure guage/adjuster and moister trap right there clamped to the table and it is very quiet,I was surprised. anyway, sorry to squeeze all these noob questions into this post but figuered it would save time.......thanx in advance....l8r

    Good for you Bigsby

    Sounds like a nice compressor.
Now you'll be spraying paint just to see what that bad babe can do.
It will definitely make things allot easier and more pleasant for you.

As far a Createx paint goes, it can be used for shirts, leather, metal, and just about anything you can think of. But for bikes and cars, you'll need to clear it. I've heard that allot of people use a two part clear over it. Start with a very dry 1st coat and then go from there. This is only if your planning to paint such things.
If you wan't something that can be sprayed right out of the bottle you should go with the Golden Airbrush Colors, and I'm sure there are others as well.
As far as air pressure goes, start with 15 psi and work your way up from there. You'll figure it out soon enough.
    Now go paint something...
