Hey Everyone - Late Bloomer Here (50). I've had an A/B for about 14 years and have just done touch-up on my working duck decoys. I was an accountant by trade (Quit at 42 to pursue other interests)and in the last 5 years or so have been doing engraving (gun stocks. knives. glass) with a 400,000 rpm drill and diamond and carbide bits. I also do artistic sandblast engraving on Metals, Wood, Stone, Granite, Marble, and Glass. I've done fundraising bricks through painted/etched sign mirrors to Tombstones. I also do vinyl signs, and screenprinting. I use Corel X4, Illustrator, and photoshop. Since I do some motorcycle chrome, I thought I'd like to add A/B to the list if I ever get good enough. I'm gonna start simple and do lettering on car doors with a stencil and try and prgress from there while I learn about colors, blending, shading and so on. I have an old Paasche VL and will prob. order a Rich Pen when I master the dots, lines, and dagger strokes. You guys make it look so so easy. I'm not an artist but will be giving it a go.
Welcome to our forum. Sounds like you have much of the skill needed to do this. As far as late bloomer, I started 6 months ago at 62, and I can't draw a thing. I was going to touch up my car and I started with the lessons provided here from Don, the moderator. Follow his simple lessons and you should be doing things with that old airbrush in no time. What airbrush do you have? Always interested in who's got what.
Sounds like you've had quite a diverse career.
I once saw a motorcycle with some engraving on the crank cases.
Of course they were skulls, but they looked really cool on there.
I would imagine that it's not that easy to do ?
With all your combined skills, you should master the airbrush in no time.
