My release valve on my porter cable 4 gallon compressor is busted, will I be creating any problems if I use it for a bit? I am planning on bringing it to the shop soon but really want to try out my regulator and water trap I set up.
Also I haven't run it in a few years so should I try running it and spraying it dry before I use paint?
I don't think a broken release valve would hurt anything on said compressor. I have been around many a small portable compressors at job sites and the only time I ever saw a release valve in action was at the end of the day when workers were packing up and they would pull the release valve to empty the pressure. I would make sure to release the pressure through the gun or hose when finished working with it. And as far as running it without paint first, shouldn't be an issue if you have a working filter in line, worse case scenario is needing to clean filter soon after due to few years of whatever being inside tank. All of this info is from running nail guns and such but a compressor is just a compressor when it come down to it.........my 2 cents
I keep trying to get to the shop and time just isn't on my side The good thing is the regulator and water trap leak like a sieve so am not concerned about over pressure lol. I will fix the leaks when I get compressor fixed.
