Default Is a primer coat needed?

For airbrushing 1:25 scale model cars, do I need to lay down a primer or can I just paint straight to the plastic? I am going to use createx paint and does it make a difference if I use opaque, transparent, pearlized, etc.? Thanks in advance for any help y'all can give.

    hi

createx paint: Non-Porous Surfaces: Clean thoroughly using both soap & water and solvent-based degreasers to remove all contaminants and oils. Scuff using 600 –800 grit sandpaper or a scuff-pad an equivalent coarseness. Clean again after scuffing prior to paint. Best to start with Createx Opaque White & Black or Auto Air 4000 Series Sealer for initial coat with an even, uniform value over-which other colors with improved coverage and a brighter value.

Thats from this tech guide: http://www.createxcolors.com/technic...ationGuide.pdf

In that guide it also explains the differences in paint opaque, pearlized, transparent. Which you use depends on the effect you are looking a accomplish.

I think you'll find the guide helpful.

    Hi Don (Newbie here)

Don, I haven't bought a airbrush gun YET. I'm trying to read and asks questions; such as:

When I ready I want to paint some parts of my Harley (Panels of the new paint)

    Questions Please:

    1. Do I need a special airbrush pen to paint Pearl Flex thru the airbrush pen ?
    2. I have a Sears compressor I bought for my tires before of thinking of trying aribrushing.
its: 125HP 3gal. tank. Is that O.K. for now to use ?

    Thanks Don
    GOD BLESS

    HI Schooner welcome to howtoairbrush.com

by paint panels do you mean like the tank, fenders? Oil cover?

If so you want to use a spray gun for the base coat, clear coat and airbrush to add artwork or graphics.

Pearl Flex? You mean pearl paint?
That compressor would be fine as log as you have a regulator and moisture trap on it.
