    Default Oil paint

    Hi everyone,

I'm a wildlife artist and have been using Windsor Newton artist oils to paint my bird carvings since I began. I have now purchased an Iwata airbrush and am learning to use it one step at a time. I was wondering if it would be possible to use artist oils in the brush if they were thinned and strained? I have never used acrylics to paint my birds because I feel they give an unnatural sheen to the carving. Oils seem to produce a softer, more natural effect. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance to all who take the time to help me out.

Welcome to howtoairbrush.com I hope you find it helpful.

I'm sure you can reduce them and use them as you wish it might take some experimenting on your part the the amount of reduction and straining the oils.

I might suggest you start out with an illustration type airbrush ready paint on paper to learn the basics with your airbrush and once you are comfortable try your oils.

Love to see some of your carvings if you get a chance to post some pictures.
